Growing up at Lightning Ridge, Janet spent her childhood exploring remnants from a lost inland sea, which covered what is now arid Australia, leaving behind fossilised shells scattered throughout the mining fields. It was much later, after marrying an opal miner, that she found out about the dinosaur bones being discovered deep within the opal mines, and this captured her imagination!
This novel has been written to show children of all ages (and their parents) that life can sometimes be tough and that there are many challenges out there, but with the support of family and friends they can be overcome.
